1 Peter Questions 1:1-12
10/4/11
Read 1 Peter through at least once
1. Peter begins his letter telling who the letter is written to. According to verse 2, if you are a believer you have been chosen. What have you been chosen for?
2. What is significant about calling believers “pilgrims” or “strangers”? What does this term suggest for us as modern-day believers?
3. We often anticipate holidays or special events. Peter opens his letter with a reminder of what we can look forward to-a future in heaven. Do you eagerly anticipate heaven? Why or why not?
4. How does Peter describe the inheritance that awaits believers in Jesus?
5. Peter uses three words in 1Peter 1:4 to contrast our inheritance with all other goals, desires or treasures. Think about what you desire or treasure. Which of those things will “perish, spoil or fade”?
6. What insights into trials does Peter give us in this passage? What purpose do they serve?
7. Think about the “living hope” (verse 3) that Jesus’ resurrection has made available to us. In these verses, note what your hope is.
Romans 8:22-25
1 Corinthians 15:19-26
1 John 3:1-3
Application:
What are some practical ways this week that you can joyfully live out the truth that you are a pilgrim on this earth?
Reflect on what your desires and goals are. Can you identify any that are more temporal (of this world) than eternal? How can you replace them with eternal goals that won’t “perish, spoil or fade”?
